Interviews with working group leaders
Cynthia Cohen, researcher at Brandeis University (Massachusetts, USA) leader of a working group about sustainability, gives a short statement on story telling. She thinks that storytelling is a very helpful tool to foster understanding and to make visible transformations that happen through art projects.
François Matarasso, community artist and author, was leading a working group about the ambitions, capacities and limits of art-projects in regions of conflict. In the first video he elaborates on the key value of art in conflict and the specific benefit of art in participatory projects. After, François Matarasso talks about the notions of measurement and proof and after all arises the question if these terms are suitable in the context of the arts.
Hannah Reich, researcher at ifa institute for intercultural relations and Berghof Foundation (Germany), reflects on considerations that need to be taken into account by a donor organisation before engaging with the arts. Thereby, transparency, collaborative work and power relations within the society should be respected.
