Summer School of Art 2017

International Summer School for Art

Zurich, Poznan, Chisinau and Sukhum/i

In June 2017, artists and curators from Suchum/i joint the International Summer School for Art, an initiative which had started a year ago as a collaboration between art universities or art initiatives in Zurich, Poznan and Chisinau.

The Summer School takes place every year, each time hosted by one of the partner organisations in one of the four cities: Chisinau, Poznan, Sukhum/i and Zurich. For a period of 10 days, each partner sends 5-6 students/ young artists and 2 lecturers or senior professionals to the school. The working time is divided between collaborative practical working on art projects, practical courses, and theory lectures or discussions, which mainly concern questions of contemporary art production and the relationship between art, criticism, and civil society. The Summer School intends to address these questions from a multifocal perspective, exemplarily taking into account the sociopolitical and economic conditions in Western, Central, and Eastern Europe.

In June 2017, the Summer School took place in Chisinau, Moldova. Among the 24 participants were also 5 artists from Sukhum/i, that were selected by SKLAD.

The Summer School has been initiated by Jörg Scheller from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
