In 2017, 12 artists from Georgia and 12 artists from Switzerland / Austria / Germany travelled to Nikozi. Since last year the village has seen some changes; the main street was newly renovated and installed with street lights and the checkpoint has been moved to the edge of the village. The local Community as well as the omnipresent police officers were very excited about the arrival of the new guests and our network put in place to accommodate the group worked out well (This year, always two artists being hosted by one family).
As in previous years, the artists group would meet each morning in the workshop of the former town hall, where the police headquarters and the IDP-Women's Association are located;along with two informal 'partner organizations' who, with great openness and helpfulness also supported the artists. From the first day on, the artists would go out into the village persuing their own interests, tracing responses to the place and it's inhabitants.
It may have been because of the choice of artists or because of the growing interest within the local community, that encouraged Nikozis residents to become even more engaged in the artistic projects this year than in previous years. So on the final day with presentations, exhibitions and party, there were many participants in the "Art, Craft and Everyday Objects Museum" (organized by Johanna Padge, Stefanie Rittler and Lali Pertenava), as well as performing on the "Open Stage "(by Nina Khurashvili and Jürgen Rendl), posing in the photo scenery (of Nina Willimann, Nora Longatti and Inga Shalvashvili) and contributing food to the buffet with local specialties (of Jennifer Mira Ackermann and Martha Todua).
The project proved to be productive in many ways and should be continued next year.
